New WMG Latin America service provides new opportunities for Hispanic artists to reach online and mobile audiences
Warner/Chappell Music Latin America, the Latin American publishing division of Warner Music Group (WMG), today officially unveiled a digital initiative with Warner Music Latin America that will generate new opportunities for a wide range of artists and songwriters published by Warner/Chappell to connect with fans via digital platforms in Latin America, the United States and across the world. The activity will provide WMG with an additional means to nurture talent and further expand its Hispanic repertoire.
Both established and up-and-coming Hispanic artists who are currently unaffiliated with a record label will sign with Warner/Chappell Music Latin America for the production of new recorded music content or the continued development of existing masters. The finished material will then be globally promoted and distributed by Warner Music Latin America via its world-class digital footprint and extensive network of online and mobile partnerships. Selected artists that benefit from the digital initiative will also be given the opportunity to sign directly with Warner Music Latin America, extending the commercial and creative possibilities of their relationship with WMG.
Furthermore, Warner Music Latin America and Warner/Chappell Latin America will co-operate on a dedicated web and WAP portal that will act as a discovery and retail destination as well as a means for unsigned songwriters and artists to submit material for consideration. The two divisions will also support the facilitation of dedicated direct-to-consumer digital artist destinations.
Gustavo Menendez, Regional Director, Warner/Chappell Music, Latin America, said “We’re delighted to be building on our existing range of services to offer our artists and songwriters access to powerful digital capabilities in Latin America and across the world. In the increasingly complex, ever-evolving entertainment landscape, some of our writers and artists are looking to us to help them find new ways to reach their audience. This new venture is an innovative, flexible solution offering digital expertise and opening up new opportunities for artists’ on going careers.”
Alfonso Perez-Soto, Vice President, Business Development, Warner Music Latin America said “The scale, strength and sophistication of our digital presence and skill-set provides this initiative with a highly responsive global platform through which new artists can explore communication with an audience and well-known stars can grow their following. Complimenting our own A&R successes in Latin America by working with Warner/Chappell’s talent spotting team will be an exciting way to further expand and diversify our impressive regional repertoire.“
Three well-respected artists, covering a variety of musical genres and styles, have already signed up to participate in the digital service. This Monday (April 21st), the second solo album of the Peruvian singer Diego Dibos became the first album to be released via the service, making it available for the first time outside Peru. The first single “Si Tu Te Vas” has already received prominence on digital platforms such as iTunes, AOL Latino, Imeem, and Movistar carriers in the Andean Region.
The Grammy-nominated Puerto Rican ‘alternative’ band Polbo is due to put out their second album, “Limonada” via the digital platform. Furthermore, renowned Argentinean classical composer and pianist Fernando Otero will release his highly anticipated new album “Material”. Release dates are still to be decided.
