Music industry veteran Shanti Das has released her latest book The Hip-Hop Professional: A Woman’s Guide to Climbing the Ladder of Success in the Entertainment Business in which she details many of the lessons learned on her rise to the top such as maintaining personal integrity and building relationships.
Das began her career at LaFace Records as the National Director of Promotions where she worked closely with the founders Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Antonio “LA” Reid. There, Das played a key role in developing effective campaigns for artists like Outkast, Goodie Mob, Usher, TLC and Toni Braxton, among others. L.A. Reid spoke highly of his former mentee, “Shanti has gone on to carve out a crucial role for herself in the entertainment industry. She is an originator, and I am thankful that she has documented her amazing history for all to learn from.”
She continued on to become Senior Director of Urban Marketing for Arista Records and later Vice President of Urban Marketing at Columbia Records. By 2003, she was the Senior Vice President of Urban Marketing at Sony Urban Music where she, again, played an instrumental role regarding the marketing and artist development of musicians like Prince, Vivian Green, Nas, Lyfe, Omarion, Bow Wow, Jagged Edge, John Legend and many more.
Das’s latest projects include her role as CEO of PressReset.me, an Atlanta-based entertainment and music consulting company; Das also co-founded ATL LIVE on the Park, a series which showcases both signed and unsigned urban talent in Atlanta, following her successful NYC showcases.
