When it comes to startup communities, Silicon Valley, California is usually the number one city on a person’s list. However, that is getting ready to change. The once indie home of SXSW, Austin, Texas is proving to be a brand new location for startups to get their footing making the town not so indie anymore.

As music, technology and movie enthusiasts have slowly, but surely watched SXSW go from a small insider gathering to a mainstream even that draws massive media attention, especially during the music festival week, young professionals with big ideas are being drawn to the town. For one, major companies are already established there including Apple and Google, so it’s clear that Austin is a breeding ground for innovation. Secondly, as of right now property is cheaper than it is in a lot of places in the U.S., so it is easy to build and maintain a life in the city. Lastly, the town is a breeding grown for creative which makes it a great place for startup companies.

I love these. My absolute, all-time farotive drink is a “Paprika Cup” at a place here in Portland. It’s vodka, whiskey, Pimm’s, passion fruit puree, muddled ginger, topped with ginger ale and a paprika sugared rim. If you’re ever in town, you must try it! 🙂
