Beyonce’s Surprise Release Sets A New Industry Standard

It’s been almost a year now since Beyonce released her surprise self-titled album that shook the record industry up. It seems as though her bold release is part of a big change that’ll take effect in July 2015.

In order to decrease the amount of piracy that occurs in Australia because they generally get releases days after the U.S. and Europe, the RIAA is going to implement global album release dates.

While the global release dates will means less piracy, it also means that physical retailers may have to adjust their business plans around release dates because as of now, releases tend to be put out on Tuesdays, but as of next year, that will shift to Fridays.
