The NFL Wants Super Bowl Halftime Acts to ‘Pay for Play’

As if it isn’t ridiculous enough that Janet Jackson is the only person banned from performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show (yes, Justin Timberlake may still perform if asked), the NFL is now asking all acts considered if they’d be willing to pay big bucks for the coveted halftime show.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Coldplay have all been approached with the slightly bogus request. Sources connected to The WSJ said that artist reps were left with a little bit of a bad taste in their mouths when asked for the money which would be some of the artist’s post-Super Bowl earnings or another monetary contribution to the league.

All in all, the request is strange since everyone knows that the league gets millions and millions of dollars from Super Bowl commercial buys and endorsements. But, on the other hand, the Halftime show costs millions to produce and gives the performer one of the biggest stages in the world for 15 minutes on one night. Is it worth it? Only the Halftime act at this year’s game will tell us.
